Owning a cat for the first time can be an absolute minefield, especially when you're wondering what you need to buy before you welcome them into your home - and there are plenty of companies out there who would like to convince you to buy pretty much EVERYTHING you could think of!
Even those of us who have owned cats for many years can sometimes find that we're looking for new or different products, depending on the cats who are currently ruling our homes.
The categories below are a basic guide to some of the products that we have found particularly useful, effective, good-quality and generally essential. There's a lot more choice out there, and what suits one household may not be the best choice for another one, but we hope that the products we suggest will give a helpful start for everyone, whether new to the world of cats or a lifelong friend of feline family members.
None of these are affiliate links - just products that we like, use and have good experiences of.

There's nothing more important than choosing the right food - the building blocks for every healthy cat.

The best way to treat fleas & worms is to never invite them in (A bit like vampires!)
Treat regularly to avoid infestations.

A good carrier can make the difference between taking your cat home from the vets, or spending weeks heartbreakingly looking for them after they escape.

Whilst 'compromise' is the last word is every cat's dictionary, it's usually the first one for cat-owners! Try to buy based on your cat's habits and choices, no matter how much you like the look of their furniture.
